Issue Position: I Believe We Must Set Good Priorities and Live Within Our Means Instead of Raising Taxes on Struggling Minnesotans

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

Minnesotans are tired of government spending that for decades has grown at twice the rate of our economy, taking more and more of our hard-earned wages. Making promises we cannot keep with money we do not have led directly to a historic $6 billion state budget deficit under the DFL majority. In the last two years, we slowed the growth in state spending and balanced the massive DFL state budget deficit without raising taxes. With a combination of fiscal responsibility and our recovering economy, Minnesota is now on course to erase any projected deficit for the next biennium! We can and must live within our means, just like Minnesota individuals, families and job creators. I will continue fighting for responsible state spending and common sense reforms to improve government.
